The Girl Next Door

By Lauren Brodner- PSA
Success often comes in unexpected ways, and for me, it all began with a simple favor from a neighbor. As a young mother of three, my days were filled with the joys and challenges of raising a family. While I loved being home with my children, I also knew I had skills that could be put to use beyond the household. When my neighbor asked me to do some work from home, I saw it as a small opportunity to contribute financially while still being present for my kids. Little did I know, that small opportunity would lead to something much bigger.
What started as a side project quickly grew into something more. The work I was doing was valuable, and word spread. My responsibilities expanded, and so did my confidence. I learned new skills, improved my organization and efficiency, and began managing more aspects of the business. Soon, I wasn’t just assisting—I was playing a key role in the company’s success.
As the business grew, so did my role within it. I transitioned from working at my kitchen table to overseeing operations, managing schedules, coordinating with clients, and ensuring everything ran smoothly. The same multitasking skills and problem-solving abilities that helped me juggle the demands of motherhood became the foundation of my professional success
I soon became involved in several service organizations, including PSA. After attending a convention in Orlando, I was truly inspired by the organization's commitment to its core values and its dedication to supporting the success of small businesses. I found myself eager to participate in PSA to expand my professional network, deepen my knowledge of the appliance service industry, and contribute to the organization's ongoing growth. By connecting with other industry professionals, I aim to exchange insights, learn best practices, and stay informed about industry trends that will enhance my expertise. My goal is not only to advance my own career but also to support PSA’s mission of empowering small businesses through education, advocacy, and collaboration. By actively engaging with PSA, I hope to help strengthen the organization, ensuring it continues to be a valuable resource for independent service providers striving for success.
Looking back, I never imagined that saying "yes" to a small opportunity would lead me to where I am today. I went from being a stay-at-home mom to a successful office manager, proving that growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones. My journey is a testament to the fact that opportunities can come from anywhere, and with dedication and perseverance, they can lead to incredible success.
